FY Patron of the Month Interview
Article by Bryce
The previous member to have earned the Fantasy Patron of the Month award was Luc Deathstryke (CL7). I asked him a few questions regarding the award as well as his new position as the Fantasy Sector Commander.
1. How do you believe you earned this Fantasy Patron of the Month award?
To be honest, I'm not quite sure what I did. All I know is that we [the Executive Council] started to discuss the award recommendations, when I was told by someone that I was going to receive the award, and that I was not allowed to suggest anyone as a replacement. I like to think that I am an active member of Outpost 10F, specifically of the fantasy genre, but I know that school also takes up a lot of my time, (school always comes before Outpost 10F!) and that I am not the only Outpost member in this position. Who knows, maybe I received it because I was able to balance my duties as Deputy Sector Commander and as a college student?
2. How does it feel to be the new Fantasy Sector Commander?
In all honesty, it's an amazing feeling, but it still seems surreal. I know one thing that a lot of people who join Outpost 10F dream of is to become a senior officer; and, if they are lucky enough, to one day become a Sector Commander. So to have my name up there with some of the great people who have passed before me in Outpost 10F is an extremely high honor.
3. So far, do you have any plans for the fantasy sector that you would like to reveal?
All I am going to say is that you better keep your noses glued to your monitors come July.
4. Hypothetically suppose that you are going to be stranded on an island and you could only bring five books with you. What five books would you bring and why?
Five books arenÂ’t enough, especially the way I read. If it were two series of books, it would be, without a doubt, the
Harry Potter Series and
The Lord of the Rings series, which includes
The Hobbit and
The Silmarillion. I think twelve books would be more apt, simply because you can go through a good book in no time at all.
5. The Outpost 10F fantasy sector has waned in popularity throughout the years. Do you think that it will ever be as lively as it once was?
Fantasy as a genre is fickle; it's tough to keep people’s interest because our [the Fantasy Sector’s] chat room is centered on such a finite part of fantasy. There is so much potential that we can tap into to bring people in on a consistent basis—either with movies that are coming out or movies that came out decades ago. Unfortunately, the older movies are unknown to a lot of members because they are so young. It will, without a doubt, be an interesting challenge to tackle in the near future.
I would like to thank Luc for allowing me to conduct this interview.
