Tastes of the Outpost

Easy Homemade Pizza Crust:

  • 2 ¼ tsp dry active yeast
  • 1 Cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 Cups flour

  • Directions:

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees (190 C)

In a medium bowl, combine yeast and warm water; let the yeast dissolve, and then stir in the olive oil, sugar, salt, and finally the flour. Beat mixture until combined and elastic. Knead dough for about one minute and let rise for about 10 minutes.

Take the dough in your hands and start to flatten the dough ball onto a pre-oiled or sprayed pizza pan or cookie sheet. Taking a fork, you want to gently pierce the dough in several places to prevent bubbling or uneven baking. Place in the oven at 375 for about 10 minutes or until the crust is slightly brown.

After this you can place sauce, cheese and toppings and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to desired doneness, crust should be crispy brown on the bottom and firm when cutting.

This is a standby recipe, if you love pizza but hate to buy it all the time, this is a very easy recipe to keep on hand and takes no time at all to do. I have also found that making a couple crusts and keeping them in the freezer is great too. This is a great activity for those with children and can be a fun family activity or if you want to impress a special someone no better way than to get a movie and make some pizza by hand.

There are several variations of pizza crusts online and it has taken a while to perfect this recipe, but I find this one to be the best of the “experiments” I have done. As an added suggestion take 1 Tbsp of Olive oil and ½ tsp of Italian seasoning and mix it together and brush the crust with it before placing it in the oven for some added flavor.
