Review of the Game "Creativerse"

A Great Building Game

Do you like Minecraft, but sometimes find yourself wanting something a little different, but not too much? Look no further than Creativerse. Created (ha) along the same lines as Minecraft, you still must craft weapons and shelter, avoid baddies at night, and explore the world, but they put a different feel behind it. The graphics are (in my opinion) better, and you don’t have to eat food to stay alive - just to regain health. As in Minecraft, the world is large but not infinite, with different animals and baddies in different biomes. Minecraft has added a number of new features, devices, and mechanics to their game, while Creativerse feels like it’s almost getting back to basics. The neat thing about Creativerse that I enjoy is blueprints. You use minimal resources to create a blueprint. After, you can set it down and it lays out for you over the terrain what blocks go where. Also, if you use the “cornerstone” of the blueprint, you can change out styles of blocks. Don’t want a stone castle? Make it an ice castle instead! Want you sweet summer cottage to instead be built in the snow? You can do that. It’s free to play, but I highly recommend the Pro version. You get a jetpack glider which makes exploring the world (and getting down from your island at the top of the skybox) much easier. Another great feature about the game is, if you want to host your own “world”, you don’t have to have your own server. Each world is hosted on the Creativerse servers, and you can set your world to Private, Invite Only, and invite your friends.

Downsides? Not many. But, it is a Minecraft clone. If you’re not into the building games, then this isn’t for you. Also, what they don’t have with the necessity to eat is danger zones. Down on the lava level? Constant health loss due to the heat. All the way down in the underworld? Constant health loss due to corruption. Not always a downside, and there’s ways to get around most of that, but still. It’s still no walk in the park to explore everything and get all the cool stuff.

Overall I think it’s a fantastic game and anyone who likes builders will enjoy it greatly. It’s available on steam, free to play, with a Pro version and some content packs. I haven’t experimented with the content packs, but with how good the game by itself it, I would wager they are on par. Get it.
