Sci-Fi and Fantasy Roundup

Article by McGrath

IIt's a little quiet on the news front this month. Star Trek Beyond has come and gone, and Game of Thrones is between seasons. However, there are still some nice little stories kicking around, esecpially as we look towards Rogue One.

Star Trek

First of all, it seems appropriate to mention Star Trek's 50th anniversay. Ok, I know it's late but it's the first opportunity this section's had to mention it.

I won't go into a massive homage to the show, because OTF members know just how great it is. I will simply let this tribute on video speak for itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig3_EWoN7h8

Here's to another 50 years!

Moving on to Star Trek: Discovery, it was revealed on September 21st that the release date will be postponed four months. Meaning it is now likely to premiere in May 2017 rather than January 2017 as anticipated.

News on the finer details of the show is hard to come by, however Bryan Fuller has Tweeted recently citing TOS episode Balance of Terror” as a touchstone for the show. The episode specifically focussed on the Federation's struggle with the Romulans, which could be a big hint as to the show's main protagonists. Time will tell..

Star Wars

News on Rogue One has been fragmented, sporadic and difficult to accumulate in an orderly fashion. So when Starwars.com decided to organise a Rogue One panel to clarify things, it was a gift from heaven!

This is well worth a read:  http://www.starwars.com/news/swce-2016-15-things-we-learned-from-the-rogue-one-a-star-wars-story-panel.

Game of Thrones

After a long, dry summer, longer than usual thanks to delayed filming this year, shooting has begun on season 7 of Game of Thrones. In the last week or so sightings of the show’s stars have ramped up and, starting yesterday, multiple reports trickled in that filming was resuming.

Local sources around Titanic Studios (the show’s production home in Belfast) say that cars were being rerouted around the Game of Thrones studios so as not to cause a noise disturbance.

Dr Who

The new season of Dr Who is currently in production, and Cult Box has put together a nice feature covering some questions about the new season: http://www.cultbox.co.uk/features/guides/doctor-who-season-10-news-summary-2016
