The Blue Report On Facebook

Article by Paulie

How was your summer, readers of the Blue Report?  You may have noticed that the September issue only covered articles to July 1st  on the Facebook page, so I have some catching up to do. Without further delay, here we go.

Back on July 13th, Patrick Stewart’s birthday, the BBC reported that garbled speech from TV and radio, including the commands of a Dalek, can hijack smartphones.

Amidst the lawsuit against the crowdfunded fan film about the battle of Axanar, the fan production spearheaded by Tim Russ entitled “Star Trek: Renegades” has dropped it’s association to our beloved franchise, and yet retained a uniform style curiously similar to those worn on “The Next Generation” in the 1980’s.

It was reported in mid-July that Tom Baker, once known as “The Doctor” on BBC’s “Doctor Who” in the 1970’s, would be lending his voice to a Force-sensitive character in “Star Wars Rebels.”

Staying on the other side of the pond for a moment, July 21st brought us a first look at the new series of Red Dwarf.

A trailer dropped “For The Love Of Spock” a couple days later, a labor of love by director Adam Nimoy, son of the man who brought Spock to life.

The upcoming Star Trek series got a name in late July, and it’s now known as “Star Trek: Discovery.” The show will apparently, at least in part, follow the adventures of a Lieutenant Commander previously only known as “Number One” from the Jeffrey Hunter-driven pilot “The Cage”, set a decade before Kirk takes command of the USS Enterprise, and will have some connection to the Original Series episode “Balance Of Terror”.

Originally slated for release on CBS All Access in January, the show will now premiere in May. To whet our apetite between now and then, there are scheduled tie-in novels and comics.

Brie Larson was officially named as “Captain Marvel” at San Diego Comic Con this summer. Also at SDCC was a reel of clips from the upcoming season of Family Guy, in which David Tennant reprises his role as The Doctor, in a parody of the BBC scifi show. Netflix will start airing new episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

And lastly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story got a trailer on August 11th
