So I went to see X-Men: Days of Future Past during the opening weekends and all I have to say is Bryan Singer has done it again. I keep thinking to myself that if he had done the other X-Men Sequels instead of Superman Returns, they might not have sucked. That though is a discussion for another time.
As for this X-Men flick, I will start off by saying that I have not read the Comics from the early 80’s. I don’t know how true the film makers were to the original Claremont & Byrne Storyline. If you want to know that ask Majin. With all that being said, I liked Days of Future Past. I liked it a lot. It wasn’t what I expected at all. I enjoyed the film because it was character driven. Yeah there were loads of special effects, but for the most part you got a chance to see what the characters were going through in both the past and the future.
The plot revolves around a dystopian future where mutants have been nearly wiped out and those humans with the mutant gene are imprisoned. Obviously it is a darker movie indeed. Wolverine is sent back to stop an assassination which begins a chain of events that lead to the downfall of society. Along the way he recruits help from some of the characters introduced in X-Men First Class and new characters are introduced. As the film unfolds each character is forced to face choices that they’ve made and where their place in the world is. As the movie plays out you learn what those choices are and experience the myriad of emotions each character endures.
The special effects were good and were not used too much. The story was very good. The acting was to notch as well. Singer was also able to infuse humor at several points in this “darker” episode and it was used well. After this movie you’ll wonder why you have to you a year and a half for another installment. I’m giving X-Men: Days of Future Past, 5 Outpost out of 5. It’s the best movie I’ve seen this year.
