A View from Engineering

Article by Mr Numbahs

OTF's Engineering Department has been very busy over the last year and the Blue Report's Cmdr. Robert Werner decided to Interview Trinity, a Large part of thier success and the new Assistant Manager of Engineering 1) How did it first feel when you were told about being the new AM of Engineering?

I thought I read it wrong. *LOL*
Then I bounced up and down on the sofa and squealed to Hydra. :D
I always wanted to be in ENG when I was younger in OTF, so it was kinda surreal to be one of the top dogs.

2) What are your new duties as AM?

Ooooo! This is a fun question. Well, I don't know that I have new "duties" so much as I have a bit more freedom, if that makes sense.
For example, once we get some Halloween stuff figured out, and I'm using this as kinda an opportunity to train people how to make quality avatars, I'm heading up a project where all of OTF's 9,000+ avatars are being refit. On top of that, the Firefly room is being worked on again, and after that Dr Who.
As ASM, I don't have to lead these projects, thank God :P
Rather, I can take some time and train other people to do the work, and multiply how effectively things get done.
So, using Halloween stuff as a training ground, I'm working with several individuals on the avatars. I'm planning on forming a team for the avatar refit, though right now its a few brave souls who have just been helping me get some bases covered. Katrina, Trekky, and Thrawny have been a huge help. Sarek is very eager to help too. I'm very blessed to have so many able bodied people who are excited about things.
The Firefly Project is going to be my training ground for Trekky, who will be taking over the Dr Who room, since she's already taken a huge initiative on it.

So my Fantastic Four, Trekky, Katrina, Sarek, Thrawny, are kinda the baseline for what is the future of ENG. Especially since we have Ohm and XgermZ work work working away at a lot of site stuff in InDev. And, of course, the fantastic Michiel who is always helping out.
So I kinda have license to have my hands in everything, and help others have a greater opportunity to contribute to the site.
….BUUUUT…..I think I only got the job so that Tanya doesn't have to clean the break room anymore.
But I'm not complaining. I get a bigger discount at the bar now.
3) How much fun is it to work with Tanya?

Tanya's delightful! Very easy to talk to. We don't always agree, but we're both very passionate about things being, "just right." Also very clear that your thoughts and feelings matter to her, because she's such a people-person. Only downside is you have to sing lullaby's to Hannah, or she cries. Hannah, that is. Not Tanya.
4) Has this new position affected your capabilites as Manager of avatars? If so, good or bad way?

Oh it has! I can now work on the developer space of the site! A lot of the avatar reboot won't even be seen by OTF. I've got a lot of cleaning up to do with how all the files are organized. But now I can do it, rather than asking someone else with higher clearance to do it fore me. YAY!
5) What would you say to the silly people that think they need to be masters of code to join Engineering?

"HA!"
That's just silly. I would very much like it if people who were able and willing could come with their good ideas and strong effort and be trained to do what we do.

6) If you could qoute your work in Engineering with one qoute, what would it be?

"Why join the navy if you can be a pirate?"~ Steve Jobs
7) Any last words for the people of OTF?

Run your idea up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it!
