Entertainment Network

With OTF v2 now in full swing, the Entertainment Network has made quite a number of changes, as have other departments. However, one big change that has resulted in great, and continuing success, is the brand new Gaming Team.

Originally, Gaming was a sort of catch-all for anything related to games. We provided hints, tips, tricks, walkthroughs, and all sorts of information. Two division made up the Team: Events, which had what we called "clans" for multi-player tournaments; and News, which published a newsletter each month giving out reviews, updates, and wonderful tidbits of information that could be helpful to almost any gamer in the community.

However, times are changing, and EN had to keep up. So Gaming was shut down for a short period of time, re-planned, and worked on behind the scenes for quite a while. Now, Gaming is pleased to announce it's brand new site, three divisions to help you: Online Games, Interactive Gaming, and Multi-Player Tournaments.

Online Games is a partnership between Outpost 10F and PlaySite™. While we serve as a sort of advertising medium for them in that we publicize through our membership of their existance, they provide us a place where we can play games such as Monopoly and Chess (with more to come as more people become involved). More information on this can be found at the Gaming Team website .

Interactive Gaming is more of the local-programmers response to the desire for entertainment. Games created in Javascript and Flash will be placed here, mainly created by Engineering although just about anyone can submit a game or an idea. The purpose here is to provide people with entertainment options that, although they aren't elaborate and intricate, can be done without logging into a game-server like PlaySite™ or Yahoo!™. It also give a level of varity and difficult that shows off the talents of some of our community's finest programmers.

Multi-Player Tournaments are a slightly new twist on an old practice. Instead of having clans, we are running it under one division, and each month we will have a new game that we highlight, and online tournaments for those that own the game. As time continues, of course, new games will be added to the list, and as the popularity grows, so will the number of tournaments we have. The first one will be the ever-popular "Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast".

New developments are happening every day, some behind the scenes to improve the ability of our members to do their work, others in the limelight to provide you as community members what you want: to have fun and in the best setting possible. So next time you're in the neighborhood, check out the Gaming Team's website at http://otfen.outpost10f.com/~gaming. And while you're at it, check out the really neat Flash program toward the bottom: It's the cube. Move your mouse over it a few times - trust me, its addictive ;)
