The Blue Report page on Facebook was buzzing with activity
again this month, mainly from two sci-fi universes that sit side-by-side.
First, in late March, Rod Roddenberry, son of “Star Trek” franchise
creator Gene Roddenberry, has given the upcoming “Star Trek” series his
personal endorsement. Three weeks later, a video hit the web, teasing the new
series. All we seem to know so far is that it will be an anthology-style show,
set between “The Undiscovered Country” (and probably after Captain Kirk was
absorbed by The Nexus in “Generations”) and the start of “The Next Generation
series.
In-universe, that means we could see anything from the years
2300 and 2360 (approximately), including things that were referenced by the shows and movies
that encapsulated the 24th century. Of course, they’re not
restricted to simply fleshing out things that had until now been referenced.
There will inevitably be new content, new canon added to the franchise. And it
won’t focus on just one starship or starbase crew.
Minor Star Wars spoilers ahead, for anyone who still hasn’t
seen “The Force Awakens.” A couple weeks later, it was revealed in a comic, how
C-3PO acquired the red arm seen in the new film.
Emilia Clarke has declared that she will not be appearing in
anymore movies for “The Terminator” franchise.
For our gamers, in the middle of May, it was revealed that
Star Trek Online, which has exclusively been played on computers, would be
available on the PS4 and Xbox One consoles later this fall. Some of you who
play may also know that the Mac client for the game was discontinued in
mid-February.
The working title for Star Wars VIII may or may not have
been revealed on May 20th. But as many of us know, movies like that
are often given a title that is later revealed to be a red herring. Or just
plain changed, as the movie evolves.
Have you seen the trailer for “Independence Day: Resurgence”?
Go to the Blue Report page and check it out.
Karl Urban joins his castmates, putting his
personal seal of approval on “Star Trek Beyond”, set to hit theaters on July 22nd.
He assured the author of an interview with IGN that it has the feel of The Original
Series.
June 19th brought the news that Anton Yelchin, Pavel Chekov in the reboot universe, had passed away due to a freak accident with his vehicle. May he rest in peace.
Geek And Sundry spread information provided by Entertainment Weekly about "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".
More news came from CBS regarding the new series premiering in January on CBS All Access. Apparently it will not be set in the "Abramsverse/Kelvin Timeline." It will apparently also not be set between the events of "The Undiscovered Country" and "The Next Generation" as previously suggested, nor will it be an anthology-style program. The possibility of multiple crews still remains, as well as LGBT inclusion.
The logo, synopsis and villain for the upcoming "Justice League" movie have been revealed.
The next piece of information came from the Marvel universe, speculating that Ghost Rider (or a comic book descendant) may appear in the "Agents Of SHIELD" series, and that the announcement of such an introduction may come at San Diego Comic Con.
Some of our readers may be old enough to remember the "He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe" cartoon, or the live-action movie that followed, starring Dolph Lundgren, Courteney Cox, Robert Duncan McNeill and Frank Langella - the latter two actors, of course, have graced our screens as former Star Trek characters Nick Locarno, Tom Paris and Jaro Essa.
But what you may not know is that there was supposed to be a sequel to the 1987 movie. And now it looks like the sequel (or possibly a reboot) is coming down the pipeline. Kellan Lutz has apparently met with the director, McG, about appearing in the film. Lutz has been linked to the lead character of He-Man himself.
And finally, it's been reported that former "Harry Potter" movie franchise actor Tom Felton has been added to the cast of "The Flash" for season three.
