"Hold on to your butts"

As Ray Arnold (Samuel L Jackson) in Jurassic Park said « Hold on to your butts » because 2017 is, so far, stacked with lots of awesome Sci-Fi news and great shows and movies!

So let’s get on with it!! 

Earlier this week there was lots of Star Wars news on social media.  Woody Harrelson, while being interviewed for his new film "Wilson" on a live Q&A with Mashable on Facebook Live, confirmed that his character in the upcoming Han Solo movie would be in a teacher-studenttype of relationship to young Han Solo.  « I’m a mentor to Han, but I’m also a bit of a criminal. »  And in a later interview with Variety about "Wilson" at the Sundance Film Festival last Sunday, another question popped up about his role in the movie.  The question asked was if his role is Garris Shrike, and Woody asks who the name is, thinks about it and says, « Yes, I am .»  You have to look at the video and just see his face.  It’s a sweet moment. 

Now you may be wondering, who is Garris Shrike? Shrike is a bounty hunter that would pick up orphans off the streets on Corellia and use them to pick pockets and make money.  He found a young Han Solo, raised him, taught him.  This is in the 1997 book by A.C. Crispin entitled "The Paradise Snare." 

So everyone must know by now that Lucasfilm dropped the title for the upcoming movie in the Star Wars Saga Episode VIII, "The Last Jedi".  For starters, the Star Wars logo is red! What’s up with that? Either this points towards Kylo and the Knights of Ren or red means a lot of people are going to die? Anyhow, what we know is this is the first time that the Star Wars logo is not yellowish-gold coloured.

And now the question who is "The Last Jedi" and what are they referring to?  Is Luke the last Jedi, is the last Jedi Leia?  Do they mean Rey is the last Jedi?  Could there be another Skywalker?  Or do they mean Jedi plural, The Knights of Ren, a new order of Jedi that will bring balance to the Force?  There are so many possibilities!  On Nerdist News they have 3 very good theories about who or what "The Last Jedi" could be :

In other Sci Fi news on Social Media, there isn’t that much talk about Star Trek Discovery.  Rumour has it that it’s been pushed back again.  The series was supposed to debut this month, then it got pushed back to May when they cast the role of Spock’s Father, Sarek.  So this to me means that they’re not final on what the script is going to be and they are still making changes.  On the other hand, I’m really happy to see such an iconic and fundamental character such as Sarek be in this series.  And we have great news!  CBS has officially released news that Star Trek Discovery has started production and has released a teaser featurette showing off the new tweaked logo, new uniforms, set production and the Captain’s chair!
