Who says civilization is
dead? Certainly not Sid Meier and Co. The latest installment of Civilization,
VI, is out and off to the races. This game builds almost directly off of the
success of Civilization V, which I have personally played for about 1000 hours.
Without giving away the whole deal, they have made some changes to resource
management which I am a fan of. They have also VASTLY improved the religion
aspect of the game. It’s much more involved, and does now require some
attention. In Civ V, if you played on a lower difficulty setting, you could set
it and forget it and it would just go. With minimal religion spread units, you
could have everyone singing your tune.
They made other gameplay
changes that, for a veteran Civ player, may take some getting used to, but
after a while you will appreciate them. I most certainly do. From religious
battles, to combining two or three troops to form a corps or an army, they’ve
definitely improved on the tried and true Civilization format.
The one thing I can say
against it is that the AI needs some improvement. The AI leaders are finicky at
best, and downright unpredictable and crazy at worst.
Overall, this is a fantastic
game, and I highly recommend it. If you’re a veteran Civ player, or this will
be your first one, I think you’ll have a great time playing it. I know I do.
