Executive Council Update

Article by Adge

"Hey OTFers!

So it appears that aside from my good looks and smooth talk, there WAS reason for HAL and Iain asking me to join the "inner-circle", so to speak! They require a mouthpiece! Given my natural charm and charisma, they picked me. You will all agree, it was a cracking choice! ;)

Ok, joking and boasting aside now. I've been charged with letting you all know that things are happening and running. Now I would love to tell you what and when, but due to the busy nature of Iain's life right now, unfortunately we can't guarantee a timetable for release dates, so I'm going to have to be coy and evasive for the time being! Needless to say however, we are looking at things - from how the site works and feels, to projects and teams, with a view to introducing another team or two, pending further discussions.

As of late a lot of things have been happening: we've had to switch to real-time chat which is proving, it seems, to be a very popular move after original resistance, and we've also started work on a second department, Communications, following the success over at Entertainment! We've also had people approaching us wanting to get involved in their own way to add to the community however they can, and we encourage you all to do that! We may not find something for everyone, but we will do our best! You, my friends, are the life-blood of the Outpost, and we hope this promising trend does continue on into the future!

Love you all,
AJ (CL7)
Exec Council Spokesman. Or something."

    10 Questions with Skaara

    Article by Ayanna

We at Outpost10F love it when new people come to our little corner of cyberspace and in our quest to get to know some of these now people a little better, we at the Blue Report take 10 Questions to someone of interest. This month we sit down with Skaara.

BR: Tell us a little about yourself

Skaara: Im a single 20 year old college student, who lives at home with his parents. I live in Pennsylvania, although I am originally from Russia, and still speak the language. I like to fool around, and am rarely serious, get to know me if you want.  Add me to MSN or Facebook/Twitter to stalk me, Im fun! :D

BR: How did you find Outpost 10f?

Skaara: One of my friends kept spamming my Facebook page with OTF stuff. It seemed fun, so I asked her about it.

BR: Where did Skaara come from? Any special meaning behind the handle?

Skaara: ‘Skaara’ is the name of one of the characters (who has now been killed off), from one of my favorite Sci-Fi shows, Stargate SG-1. I usually use the handle, Skaara in chat rooms.

BR: As we know you are new to the outpost, What is your opinions on the Auto-Refresh? Do you really think it makes it easier for new members?

Skaara: I am more used to having to press Receive to get new messages, but I can see how Auto-Refresh is simpler. It lets me be in chat, from work, without having to stare at the screen, and keep remembering to Receive.

BR: What do you like the most about the Outpost?

Skaara: The people. The people at OTF are funny, and usually make me laugh. I was just skimming the past Blue Reports, and looking at the comic strips, laughing at all of them. :P

BR: What is your opinion overall on the atmosphere in Outpost10f, did people make you feel welcomed, who stood out the most to you?

Skaara: The people are cool. I didn’t get treated like a noob, when I first signed up, I was just treated like everyone else. Im already getting threatened to be sold to other members, and being shot out of chat for no reason, makes me feel like I been here for a while. (and no, that does not mean I letting you shoot/sell me :P)

BR: If you could choose to do anything in Outpost, what would you do?

Skaara: No clue. I just joined, so don’t really know what Departments need help.

BR: What kind of things are you interested in?

Skaara: I like to play games. Im not very good (read – I suck), but I still enjoy them. I also like reading science fiction, fantasy, and fiction books. Right now, Im on the 7th book in the Sword of Truth series, as well as listening to the Audiobooks in the Dragonlance Saga. I also listen to music and ride my bike.

BR: If you could choose one thing that would make the Outpost better, what would it be?

Skaara: Can’t really think of anything right now, only been here for a about a month. The site seems pretty well-run to me, and I haven’t stumbled upon any bugs or issues. 

BR: Anything else you want to add for the good of the order?

Skaara: nothing at the moment, if I think of something I’ll let you know. :P

    Pictures, Pictures Everywhere!

    Article by Richard Smith

As we look at another Team this month we again talk with Lzrman, this time about the Outpost10F Yearbook project. This labor (labour) of love came back into the spotlight last year and the team working in the 2010 edition is looking to make this one better than ever.

BR: So tell us about the Outpost10F Yearbook, what's it like?

Lzrman: The Outpost10F Yearbook is a collection of Member Pictures, Chatsaves and Interviews that record the happenings of that Year.

    BR: When does planning begin?

Lzrman: Planning began a little bit late this year compared to last, as I wanted to select a team that was graphically, technically, and visually sound.

BR: Why do we have the yearbook?

Lzrman: We have a yearbook because we want to be able to go back and say what happened in the previous year, and something to recall memories from.

BR: Where does it stand at this point? What have you gotten done so far?

Lzrman: Where it stands at this point is we have a solid design, and a solid back end in programming for the collection of data, I can't say for sure yet about the system we have in place to collect the data, but what I can say is it will be used in future yearbooks to come and it will make it really simple to gather information from the general OTF Community and use it.

BR: Do you have any examples of past yearbooks?

Lzrman: The 2009 yearbook is located here, and the other ones are located on the communications server, to which we plan to move over to the yearbook sub-domain. With a main page located on http://yearbook.outpost10f.com where you can select the year you wish to view.

BR: How is the theme picked?

Lzrman: Generally a theme is picked by the Yearbook Team, we then hash out ideas back and forth on the mailing list. This year I had James Gilfoyle design something and I brough up ideas that I had in previous years that I wanted implemented and we found a nice mix of the two designs.

    BR: When is it released?

Lzrman: The release date usually falls on the day of the OTF Anniversary, last year we released it late as the anniversary was pushed back. I would like to release it in the next couple months preferably mid-august, early-september.

BR: What do you need from OTF patrons?

Lzrman: We want your Chatsaves, Your Personal Picture, and soon an Interview, I am looking for personal interviews with Executives, New Senior Managers, Assistant Managers, and Team Leaders to hear how they can change some of the projects under there management.

BR: If someone wants to join the team to help finish the yearbook, how does one get on?

Lzrman: Currently I have enough individuals on the yearbook team, but should anything pop up, I'll put out a call for help.

BR: Anything else for the good of the order?

Lzrman: If anyone has any ideas in what we should add to the yearbook, send me an email at Lzrman@outpost10f.com and I would be happy to entertain, dance or do a jig to any ideas that you may have.
