It was certainly a quieter year than my year as senior manager of Engineering, but it has been good too. I've enjoyed being the 'go to' person for the chat, helping new members and returning old members.
The EC list was always this mysterious folder in Andrew's inbox, which he'd tell me about but I never actually got to see with my own eyes. And now I get to see it all! Albeit it's calmer than it once was, it is interesting to see the deepest level of what is going on with the system and the politics. Even if the chat seems quiet, sometimes the EC list is humming along with progress in other areas.
I enjoy having a place to come chat after the kids are in bed, to hang up my "mom" hat and go back to just being me for a few hours. We joke around, we share deep thoughts on life. And true to our roots, we often circle back to our geeky interests in sci-fi and fantasy, television series and books.
Our biggest technical issue in the past year has been the server issues and lag, and I hope it will be resolved in the coming year, for good. I think many of us are discouraged when we log in, only to have our posts eaten up by some balrog.
It's hard to match the epic level of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings. Doctor who comes nearest, and logically should be next, but adding themes is huge. It's a lot of work, and takes a dedicated team of skilled people to make it happen. We've only had one theme added in the past decade, and it may be a while yet before we have the momentum to do it again.
What does it matter, when none of it works on Iain?
When not watching 'Frozen' with my 3 year old, I do manage to catch some adult shows, yes. I watched all of 'The Walking Dead' in the fall, and ended up with nightmares for months afterward. So I switched to more pleasant drama like 'Downton Abbey' and 'Call the Midwife'.
I'm currently 10% into a dress, using a red and purple silk blend, and 80% into a rather wacky top in shades of blue and brown. Hopefully I can finish something in time for fall.
Sansa! Any Sansa will do.
