What is Internal Development again?Internal Development works to improve site files and scripts. This group concentrates on designing and implementing new systems and managing currently existing ones. Members of Internal Development are experienced OTF officers who have had sufficient training/background in technical issues and web development. Internal Development is part of Administrations, so the Director has a seat in the Executive Council. The following tasks are performed by Internal Development: · Maintaining the Outpost 10F server itself · Maintaining the quality of existing scripts that are running on our server · Expanding the existing scripts and composing totally new scripts to cater for new functionality · Keeping the content of web pages up to date · Guarding the quality of web pages (i.e. page layout, graphics, linguistics, etc.) · Constructing new web pages · Investigating and solving bug reports that were sent in using the Help Desk · Offering technical assistance · Working with departments and offering technical skills where needed
Ah... So who do all these amazing things?Well, the structure of Internal Development is rather simple, yet perhaps a bit confusing. InDev consists of a number of people, each of which with their own expertise in which he or she operates rather independently. To coordinate all this and to insure that all things progress nicely, there is a Director of Internal Development. Internal Development consists of following peeps:
Sounds real nice, but what have you been up to all year? The past year has been a very exciting year for Internal Development. After the purchase of our own server last year, a whole new world of technical possibilities opened up for us to make use of. And what would a bunch of techies be if we didn't make use of it? The coming of the server and our did not only open new technical possibilities, but even more importantly gave Outpost 10F the possibility to grow in the future. The direction in which we want to grow and our goals were formulated in the Vision of the Future by the newly formed Marketing Division and by the Executive Council. Part of the Vision of the Future describes in what direction the pages and scripts should evolve over time after completion of this document. This is where Internal Development came into the picture. Given the Vision of the Future and given the possibilities of the server, Internal Development put together a list of systems that needed to be made and systems that needed to be updated. A new page layout for the main page and for all our other pages was also needed. All our current login pages needed sprucing up and needed to be prepared for the new login procedure (user-id and password in stead of just command code). As all our pages and scripts were to be revised, we named this project Outpost 10F version 2. To get this all done, two teams were formed. The first is the developers team, which focussed on building all the new systems and designing the data structure needed to contain all the information that was going to be used by the systems. This team consists of Maxwell, Mathew Rose, Jon and Henri, which each took on a number of systems. The second team was the design team, which focussed on designing the new logo, homepage and the template for all other pages. This team was composed of members of Internal Development and Marketing. Internal Development took care of the actual designing, whereas Marketing made sure that the new design was according to the Vision of the Future plan. The team consisted of Piraeus, Maxwell, LindaX, RQ, Jor, Kali d'Or, Tierce and Henri. As these teams consisted mainly of different people, development of both systems and layout could be done simultaneously. While all this was taking place, Sonata Form was happily redesigning the login pages and our new smilies.
So you did some stuff, does that mean you'll be sitting back and relax next year?*LOL* As tempting as it may sound, no we will not. There are some very cool new things in the works. There will be a new system called ********** and a brand new ******** called *****. In other words… There's much to come, but I can't tell you lot anything about what they are and when you can expect them. They are totally cool though! By next year's anniversary you should know a bit more…
Well Henri, wasn't there something you wanted to say?If I may, yes please. I would like to thank all the wonderful people that are in Internal Development for all the work they have done this last year. You all rock!!! You have been the greatest team I've worked with for quite some time. Party in my place! Bring your own food and drinks please... I'm still a Dutchie.
