It's been a busy year for OTF, as you all know, with the vision plan taking effect by stages. It was fun taking part in many a planning session, leading to the big changes you've seen introduced over the last few months. In addition to the work I do with the Executive Council on overall site direction, it's my job to manage the Star Trek side of the Outpost. This has included working on ways to improve our chats in particular, and a couple of results I can point to are the avatar selection and the recent affiliations (which seems to have been a great success!)
I suppose the aspect of my job which is best known is Promotions. This is a fairly time-consuming task, but one we can't hurry. We try our hardest to be fair and meet regularly to discuss promotions. We also deal with queries and comlaints and again, these have to be dealt with as fairly as possible. Usually a day won't go by without one query or another about Command Codes etcetera. These are all fairly well known aspects of the work of Sector Command. What you don't see is the behind-the-scenes stuff, what I talked about earlier - the planning. I don't know about anyone else, but for me this is a really fun part of the job!
I've had other roles in the past year. For example, I act as the liason for the Executive Council to Entertainment and it's really nice to have that contact; it's almost like being in a Department again and I enjoy the illusion! Another role I've had is to help implement the Vision Plan, though here I have to give a nod to my co-Implementer here, Kali D'or, and recognise the great work she's done. The implementation is an ongoing thing, but as more and more of the Outpost's systems and organisational structures are revised, this role will probably lessen.
As you will remember, I took over as Sector Commander from Commodore TeeKay in December. I want to pay tribute to the work she did. Teek was instrumental in establishing the role of a Sector Commander, and took a full part in planning both changes in TF and the Outpost as a whole. TF wouldn't be what it is today without her influence and I'm grateful!
Finally, I spent six wonderful months in Tasmania this year. My fiancee and I have conducted most of our relationship via the internet, the phone and letters but we spent a lot of time living together recently. I'll be going back later this autumn and next year we plan to get a house in the UK. I can't begin to describe what a massive effect Karen's had on my life and I love her to bits! She thinks she's the power behind my throne. *l* Well, that may be true or not but I wanted to mention her here, as she's by far the most exciting and important thing that's happened in my life.
That's about all I have to say right now, I hope this page explained a few things! Take care.
