Religious Tolerance

Not long ago some members of the UK's version of the KKK, the National Front, attacked me, I'll spare you the details but it was because I'm not like them (white). The incident wasn't too distressing but it got me thinking, why people seem to fear, loathe or hate what is different to them.

Religion, it supposed to be a cause for peace around the world as all world religions propagate peace, now it just cause for conflict, with people who use religion as a shield to attack others and tar the good name of all religions from Islam to Buddhism.

Why now people seem to want to attack world religions just because of the actions of the few seem to tar the many, I have friend who lives in the US (Chicago) who told me that after September 11th he was accused as being part of the terrorist organisation that attack the twin towers by people he had known all his life, by neighbours to the extent that his neighbours children didn't play with his as the feared him because he is a Muslim! He says that now that it was getting better but with the onset of war he was hospitalised just because he believes that Islam is the correct religion.

Now all we seem to do is look for the differences between us and why not look toward what isn't different, there are huge divisions between people, like the war in Iraq many people were against it and many were for it.

Religion should be used to bring people closer together whether they believe in the same god or not During the dark ages in the middle east it -wasn't as uncivilised as it is now- there used be cross religion commission which used to work together to deal with problems in society. I just hope that people can once again sit next to people that are different to them and are able to deal with problems in society today but this shouldn't be confined to religious people but with Agnostics and Atheists as well as they also believe sincerely to their faith.

Only together can we build a more tolerant and safer world.
