A cold and rainy morning.....
It was an early morning, rainy but there would be an interesting trip today. A trip to a Star Wars convention. An hour on the train and there I was, at the station waiting for missMaul. Now I should be able to get to my final destination, two people know more than one. We arrived 10 minutes later and saw this huge queue for the entrance. Lucky us, we already had a ticket. So we just walked by and waved at the people who would be there for at least another half our.
Threw open the door and there we where. We saw stands with books, figures, posters, collectables, like almost everything. Even a real size Fett made of Lego. We where just able to check out a few stands when they announced that the VIP's would be introduced to us. From that point on, there was just one thing we where able to do. Go with the flow to see those people. We saw Alan Dean Foster, Tim Rose, Jeremy Bullock, Kenny Baker, Felix Silla, Alan Harris, Steven Speirs, Mike Edmonds, John Chapman, Dermot Crowley and Julian Glover.
More on Alan Dean Foster in our next installment - he's going to answer some questions for us!!
Right after the introduction they went to the part where the VIP's would start signing stuff. And again, one current up the stairs. We all had one goal: finding out who was where and where one line ended and another one started. First I got my book signed. Alan Dean Foster is a nice guy, little quiet, well he had a long trip. Then I went looking for other interesting people, well the ones I recognized, to get an autograph. The queues weren't that long. And it was fun looking around.
Whole families standing in line, just so that one of the kids could get all the
autographs and the photo with the actor. The second line I found myself in was the Tim Rose
line. Funny, spontaneous, has plenty of times for his fans. But you will hear more of that
later.
Then the searching started again, this time to find MissMaul again. More people, more lines,
and finally the stairs. MM where are you hiding!? We bumped into each other and moved on to
the stands. Books, that looked very interesting. Big disappointment, only eight Star Wars books, but plenty of Star Trek, at a Star Wars convention, strange people.
Ok now we had some goodies, but the first round of questions for the poor VIP's started. So back to the stage part and try to get some inside info on these peoples lives. After that there still would be a second signing stuff part, a second bug the actors round and two auction rounds to go. Plenty of fun. Everything was interesting. They had signed books, signed photographs, collectors items and other great stuff. All the money from that they went to a good cause: the cancer fund. The action was very interesting and great to be part of.
The whole program ended with a costume contest. Little Ani won, great costume. There we where, our bags packed with goodies. And on our way home, time to start enjoying our new Star Wars thingies.
