Hot Mulled Cider

1 gallon cider (not fresh, pasteurized or made from frozen concentrate)
1/2 granny smith apple
1 medium size orange, sliced in rounds
1 cinnamon stick
1 1/2 Tbl. whole cloves
1. In a large sauce pan (that can hold a gallon of liquid) very slowly heat the gallon of cider.
2. In the cider, add the cinnamon stick, the orange slices, and the apple half which you have studded with the cloves on the cut side (make sure the apple half is in the cider clove side down)
3. Heat well, but not till boiling, simmer slowly until the apple skin side has changed color.
4. With a large slotted spoon, remove the orange slices, apple and cinnamon stick and discard.
5. You can keep the cider on the stove on very very low heat. Serve hot in big mugs, preferably in front of a fire with friends.
Hint: if you add a shot of appricot or peach flavored brandy, assuming you are old enough to do this, it is rather good :)
