Logistics

Logistics has been involved in many important projects of late. Arguably the most important is the SOPs project and its corollary, the nascent Constitution. An SOP is somewhat similar to a law or regulation that will be binding upon all those who work, rest and play within the confines of the Outpost. These will provide standardized documents relating to many facets of OTF that defines what is allowed and not allowed, rather than the current ad hoc way of operating. They will also provide room for impartial arbitration either through us, Logistics or Internal Affairs.

The initial part of this is the Constitution. Just like any other organization, OTF needs a basic, fundamental document that sets out the ground rules. This is what the Constitution is. It defines such simple things as an EC and the limits of OTF's jurisdiction. It also goes on to state many other things that we may take for granted but that need to written and documented. We are in the process of writing this. As you can imagine, such a document requires much careful consideration and thought and once all interested parties have their say, it shall be completed.

Many of you would ask why should we bother. Well for one simple reason, when I started at the Outpost back in 1997, everyone knew each other, especially in the Command ranks and this continued well into recent years. However, we are reaching a point where not everyone will know each other. We have people from way back working with recent additions. We have people with different perceptions about how OTF works and who should be doing what. We have complex structures that have been implemented to achieve goals and all of this cannot be regulated by the unwritten understandings that used to govern the way OTF was run.

In this way, it is in OTF's interest to begin collating and assembling a code of "laws" that will enable us to run smoothly, settle disputes and allow everyone to know what they are doing and how they must do it. Now, with this project, Logistics is bringing everything into focus for you.
