Hello and welcome to my part of the tribune. Now, let me begin. Once upon a
time there were.... oooops wrong thing :P Ok, I'm ready now. The first club
I'm going to talk about to today is FanForce, found at http://fanforce.net.
I'd like to point out at the get go that Fan Force isn't a fan club in the
traditional sense, it's more of a community of fan clubs.
By this I mean that you can go there and find clubs in your area of the world, or at least
thats what the site says it does. It also provides a way for clubs and
their members what's happeneing elsewhere in the world. Compared to the fan
club I reviewed last month (SFI), this is a youngster of a fan club. The
genesis for FanForce was in 1999, and it wasnt until May 2000 that FanForce
became what it is now. There is a link to find a brief history of the organization
on the site if you want to hav a look at it. FanForce, if you haven't
guessed yet or haven't visited the site yet, is a part of TheForce.net
which is found at http://www.theforce.net.
The site has a few other features aside from informing the associated clubs
what the others are up to. There's a fantasy (american) football league,
free email and city forums. So if you want to look for a Star Wars fan club
in your area of the world, check it out.
I should point out that there are some sites you should just avoid. A good example would be www.geocities.com/grayewok/index2_e.html. The reason is that it's only got a homepage and nothing else. This site is actually the start of the english translation of the german site, which can be found at http://grayewoks.here.de. I would review this site, but I can't remeber much from my Geman lessons at school. So check it out if you wish.
Another site, which is just a message on a messageboard, claims to be a free Star Wars fan club, but when you read the message, it's just a Michael Sheard (Admiral Ozzel in Empire Strikes Back) appreciation society, and the only noticable thing that happens is that a quarterly newsletter is sent out. The link is http://www.sci-fi-london.com/wwwboard/messages/332.html
for anyone who is interested.
There is also a yahoo group that is specifically a star wars fan club, which is found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thestarwarsfanclub. I haven't fully explored what the site organizes as I didn't wish to sign up, but if any readers wants to check the site and sign up, visit the link supplied. The messages are viewable by non-members, but my computer is
acting up, and won't let me read the messages, somwthing to do with cookies .............................mmmm cookies :P.
If it seems like I'm viewing Star Trek fan clubs in a better light than Star Wars clubs, I'm not. It's just that I seem to find more Star Wars clubs than Star Trek clubs that seem not very good. In my opinion anyway. So visit the links, make up your mind, and wether or not you like them is your choice. I'm just trying to point you in the right direction.
