Not long after I had joined R&D (then under the watchful eye of
Commander Henri) I remember the membership of the dept. having a bit of
a moan (as sometimes happens). We then all received a mail from a
certain Assistant Manager who will remain nameless telling us "We
would never know how much it takes to run a dept". Well suffice to say,
she was proven wrong. Still, even after that mail all that time ago I
have to say I was surprised at just how much it does take. I started
with ideas of how I would like things to work, things I would like to
change, policies I would like to put in place, a lot of which has now
changed after a steep learning curve (thank you Babel).
Both Babel and myself accepted this Job to get Engineering moving
forward again. With the development and implementation of V2 many of
the Engineering projects had to take a back seat. Now we are just
beginning to get them moving forward again (just not in the same
incarnations they had taken previously) I am pleased to say that the
Projects are now beginning to move forward again after some Major
changes to our Project Roster. Captain Lucas has been of great help
during this project re-organization making many great suggestions, most
of which I think we have Implemented. With Lucas' input and great
idea's we are now beginning to see a much tighter Project Roster of much
larger Projects, so our thanks to him. (Even if he has kept a few
people awake until stupid O'clock in the morning to achieve it, so
thanks again mate. *s*)
I'm pleased to say that we never did much of a team re-shuffle, as I
feel I would have killed myself. The changes we did make were difficult
enough as it was. It may sound stupid but trying to justify team
changes is not an easy thing. For example, why is the new structure of
a dept better than the old one? What are the pros and con's to each?
After all of that, and rewriting and rewriting, can we then justify the
team definitions? It is a necessary thing to do, but time consuming and
at times frustrating. So my thanks to Admiral Maxwell, with out his
input I don't think we would have implemented a structure as solid as it
is now.
The work we have done within the dept. over the last couple of months
can by no means be credited to just a few people. Scully, Eagle and
each and every team leader has given their all in getting the projects
moving forward and nearer to release. We have some great projects on
the horizon and thanks to the entire dept; we should be seeing them out
for release very soon.
I think the most exciting project we have planned thus far has to be our
ISA Takeover. If you take a look at the engineering roster and the ISA
Roster (don't forget Intel) you will see what I mean. As soon as we
have over thrown Jon and Pace the rest should all fall into place and we
will rule all *eg*.
Erm, I may have said too much, forget that last part. We hope to be
posting regular news updates on the Engineering Homepage soon, so keep
an eye out.
