Sabacc Part II Last month, I went over the basics of how to play Sabacc and explained the deck structure. This month I'll tell you a little about how to construct a deck.

There are two basic ways of doing this. First, the method I prefer is to create your own cards on a computer. This gives you the ability to make a custom deck for your own "Casino". For instance, I've made several decks, each with different graphics on the face, but the backs of all but one of them say "Gremlin's Table" with a picture of a dragon. The other deck says "Cloud City Casino" with a picture of Cloud City.

You can print these cards out on card stock or even on business card stock (Nice for a tavel deck). Now, when you print them out on card stock you'll have to cut them out, and then make them not all quite the same size. The solution? Simply put them in collectable card sleeves available at most department stores and game stores.

The second way to make a Sabac Deck is to modify regular playing cards. You'll need two decks. Leave the first deck as it is. Then just choose some cards out of the second deck and over-write the print with a permanent marker. Take some care and give some thought to which cards to use where. For example, you're going to need 1's and 11's. I use the Ace's from the second deck to make my 1's and modify the 10's to make 11's. You'll need negative cards such as 'The Evil one' and the 'Star' (-15 and -17). Use the 5's and 7's. Put a 1 in front of the number and a - behind. Granted, this makes it look like 15- instead of -15, but them is the breaks.

Make a deck and teach your friends. You'll enjoy it.

Next issue, I'll explain the rules and board to Martian Chess, and have a brief discussion on Dabo.

Until then,
Good luck and have fun,
Lt Comm. Gremlin, the Dark
