The Book Nook Some of the best books in the world are out of print due to money constraints on the publishing company or the popularity just isn't what it used to be. As the years go on, the titles become harder and harder to find. Places like the Book Nook of Findlay, Ohio make book buying like a treasure hunt. In my quest to get all of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" books, the Book Nook has become my own personal secret place to gather those hard-to-find first books of the series. Think of it as a chest of treasure for someone like me!

The store has an interesting twist to it that is very rarely found in the large, chain bookstores. The best way to explain it is as it's a library where you get to decide which books you want to keep. Customers buy the books they want, keep the ones out of the pile that they wish to keep, and then sell the rest back to the Book Nook. I've seen books pass in and out of there for two years straight now, including plenty of the TNG books. But that's not all they carry! New books, comics, and some glass figurines surround the used books to add character to the store. It's almost tempting to take up a seat in one of the old chairs in different sections, whether it is in the romance or mystery section, to get a small taste of a book before you buy it.

The Book Nook is run by an older woman, who I'd swear has read almost every author under the sun, having started this small business that has been going for a few years. Although, I've never known her name, but there's a connection she seems to keep with her customers. She even joked with me once that she would never dream of moving the Star Trek section in worry that I couldn't come by to check to see if she has any of the older books in the series. Of course, she has had employees come and go, but they all seem to strive to keep the business small enough to keep the connection.

Years ago, the Book Nook was given the chance to move to the Findlay Mall, which is a huge chance for any business to take off. Worries of whether the Book Nook could survive the competition from the chain bookstores or if the changes would be good for the atmosphere of the store, the owner refused. So still to this day, the Book Nook is one of the many treasures that are usually passed by the word of mouth.

May the Book Nook always keep the connection to the customers that have kept it going for years now and hopefully many years to come. Well, at least until I get everyone's TNG books to complete my series.
