Enginering Update

Author: Commander Logan
Department: Engineering

This month I feel that Engineering as a dept is now beginning to settle down and begin to work together again within their teams, not that that was not happening before, now I think it is becoming a normal thing. People are beginning to find their feet a little more. We still have some teams (and some members within those teams) doing more than others. However, that is being addressed and I think a more even work load is coming of that now.

As a dept we have a couple of teams that are taking us to new heights. We have our first two SQL projects in full production. As eventual users of these two projects you won't notice anything (aesthetically) different, well to our normal standard of work of course (gotta praise our talented designers for constantly pushing the boundaries). What you will find different is, SQL is a far more streamlined Database assembly language. It uses less server resources, and is therefore faster, so the information you request from them is resolved and displayed faster. Cool eh? *s*

I have been pleased to see submissions from the community far more this month. I have received several suggestions and complaints over how OTF sites are constructed as a whole. These are all things that will be addressed now that they have been flagged up. Some of them were flagged directly to myself, some via the OTF Suggestion Box (otfsb@yahoo.com). Probably best to put them via the Suggestion box (as that is what it is there for *s*) If you are not sure as to the relevance though, feel free to E-mail myself still (logan@outpost10f.com). Either way, keep the idea's, suggestions and complaints even (regarding sites etc) coming in. The projects are designed for the community, if we are not targeting our entire audience, then obviously we would like to know as so we can fix that. Thanks again to those who took the time and trouble to E-mail either myself or the suggestion box.

I think now that we are almost in full flight, everyone has become very busy due to the large projects we are producing, the first of which we hope to have released in the new year. (they will actually be ready this month, but we will need to do some rigorous testing to work out the bugs before you all get to play with em *s*) I think you will be busy enough this year making your way around Alder Hill and remember the Seniors Playground has been updated to incorporate this great new chat room in the puppet editor.

Until next month, take care.
