Did you know...

...that the word trivia means three roads?
For anyone with basic Latin knowledge it's easy to translate the word trivia tri-three and via-road. But let's take it one step further and look where it came from.

Many times a direct translation will not provide you with a satisfactory answer of where and why the word came about, but it will often give you clues as how to find out. For trivia the clues are the answer, and I will here give you the short but interesting story of the word.

Imagine you are standing in a crossing, a place where three roads meet. Now think about what would you hear all day if you stood there listening to the people passing you by, chatting to each other. What you would hear would probably to the most part be things with not much relevance, it would be trivial things, trivia.

So trivia basically comes from what you would hear at a crossing of three roads if you listened carefully to what the people passing you by said. Pretty self explanatory when you think about it, isn't it?

And here are some more useless facts, did you know that...
...during the chariot scene in 'Ben Hur' a small red car can be seen in the distance.
...Spencer Eldon was the name of the baby on the cover of Nirvana's album Nevermind.
...Darth Vader is the only officer in the Imperial Forces who doesn't have a rank.

...American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one olive from each salad served in first class.
...out of OTF's CL8's there are two who have stated their race to be Q.

...the Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from public libraries.
...in 'Star Trek : First Contact', when Picard shows Lilly she is orbiting Earth, Australia and Papa New Guinea are clearly visible .. but New Zealand is missing.

That's all for this month! Don't worry, I'll be back with more next month! ;)
