WWE 2K16

Article by Ice

Well it was Christmas and that meant the kid's got an xbox one. So I have a small stockpile of games to review over coming issues, so much so I'm biting the nail on my submission date for this article 01/01/16 which is very for me. But work, uni & the holidays left me little time after spending so much with the family.

Now I blew my intro without discussing the game and I did that on purpose, because I'm a little bit mean. Well I'll start with the xbox one review to get going, it's quiet which is great because my last xbox 360 made a racket. The new home system is a nightmare, well from a user experience point of view, I can never tell what I'm doing. I got a hasbro game's disk with 4 games on it and whenever I pop in the disk it shoots to monopoly (the first game we played) I have to manually select the other games to load them which is a pain.

The reason I chose the WWE game is I know OTF holds a few fan's and I myself haven't been for a long time but my lad is getting into it. This was his first choice for a new game and we've had a few cracks on it together. Character selection is pretty good their's new one's I've never heard of and a few old timers like the Ultimate Warrior and Sgt.Slaughter which keep me happy when we play.

There are plenty of game modes to choose from for exhibitions from tag-team tournaments to hell-in-a-cell, we haven't tried them all but they are as you would expect. The story-line mode though is very poor in my opinion, no clear path. You have to start a rival with the champion after becoming #1 contender then keep the rival running until a ppv for a title shot. I think it's going to open up now as you can pick another title and have to appease the authority but I've not played that much yet it took me forever to figure out the first part which got very boring.

Royal rumbles are good fun but that's always been the aspect I enjoyed about wresting, so far my record is going out 26th as the 1st entry with the Ultimate Warrior which I'm still impressed with because my lad beat the snot outta me with everyone character he brought in (threw him out 7 times though with 18 total eliminations :D)

The controls for the game are a bit confusing at first and I still can't get the submission system properly and countering an attack is hit or miss at the best of times. Generally I think that's just learning curve and getting use to it. I'd rate it a 4 out of 5star game given the genre, I think if Story mode got a bit better I'd push it up to 4.5stars though, worth a shot if your a fan or got a kid who enjoys it. Gave me a great excuse to show my son the 95 Royal Rumble (and soon to be every Royal Rumble lol)

Next month I'd do Star Wars Battlefront I haven't had the opportunity to play it yet but it's sat there waiting for me.
