I attended Boston Comic Con
during the weekend where July became August, and had a great time, despite the
90 degree heat, and thus the inability to cosplay.
As you might expect, there was much walking involved in going to a convention like this. Walking around, and actively trying to not spend all of your money on all sorts of items being sold. I met a lot of great people, saw many great cosplays, got a few photo ops, and loved every minute of it.
After some trouble finding a place to park on late Friday morning(my friends and I decided to commute), I found that the line to get into Boston Comic Con was wrapped all the way around that Seaport World Trade Center. By the time I actually got to the proper entrance, I had to sit and take a breather.
When I finally decided to venture in, I walked around to get the lay of the land – to see who was around, where they were, and what they were selling. Also to find out where refreshments were being sold. Fortunately, there were a few vendors roaming around with carts selling soda and water.
The highlight of that day for me was a photo op with Billie Piper, of “Doctor Who”, “Penny Dreadful” and “Secret Diary Of A Call Girl”. I also got a chance to chat with Cassandra Peterson, known to horror genre fans as “Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark”. I also spoke with Thomas Jane, star of 2004’s “The Punisher”, and “Dreamcatcher”, which co-starred Morgan Freeman, and he called “a weird, little film.”
Saturday, I met some great cosplayers, caught up with an old friend of 25 years, met “The Real Peter Griffin”, got Billie Piper to autograph our photo op, and then had a photo op with Marvel actress Hayley Atwell.
Sunday, I met “Gotham’s” Robin Lord Taylor and had a group photo op with Stan Lee, my cousin, and some friends. I’ve already decided to go back next year, to acquire a hotel room across from the convention center, and to cosplay each day. I'll be Joe Swanson with “The Real Peter Griffin” if he’s there, as well as friends who want to get in on the action. I also plan to cosplay Admiral Pike from the end of 2009’s “Star Trek”, and possibly the “Doctor Who” villain Davros - all of them being cosplays that involve a wheelchair, so I won't be so worn out.
