This month we have the Outpost10F anniversary, when we celebrate any annual event it's as much about the journey as the destination, we look back and reflect on things from the past, things that captivated us along the way and led us to where we are.
I decided this month to avoid a flash game, or a game that'll cost you a small fortune but to go back to the beginning of it all for me, why I enjoy games. Don't get me wrong this wasn't my first game, but it was the one that got me hooked, before Mega Man 2 games were purely for an hours entertainment this game took things to a new level for me, when I go on my "retro binge" Mega Man 2 is always the first game I track down.
So what is the game? Well it's really quite simple you play Mega Man and you start out selecting which level you want to do, each level has a pretty simplistic boss such as Metal Man or Wood Man, then the level is designed around there "type" so for example my favorite (Ice Man) the level is frozen and you slide as you run about - so each boss brings a new challenge to the game. Every time you complete a level you gain a new ability related to the level you just beat, so when you beat Metal Man for example your weapon is replaced and you fire metal which does more damage and can be multi-directional. Once you beat the primary bosses you start working you way to beat the Dr these levels are a bit tougher but by this stage you have a large variety of tools to help you through the levels.
The concept is simple, as you progress you character improves, it's a simple fire and jump so nothing to complex but it was is still an amazing game, hell im playing it years and years later. You can get it on your iphone now (not sure about android) or a simple google search and you can play a flash version, not as responsive as the good ole nes but unless you got one knocking about you may need to settle for an emulator, which varies depending on which you go with.
Anyway, looking back with no regrets, hope y'all feel the same about OTF!
