It’s time for another convention update! I’ll be attending SuperMegaFest Comic Con in Marlboro, Massachusetts during the weekend of April 17-19th. Stars at the convention will include Star Trek TNG’s own Jonathan Frakes, as well as Seventh Doctor actor Sylvester McCoy, who I’ll be meeting for a second time in the last 18 months.
Other guests include Chris Sarandon of The Princess Diaries, and the Deep Space Nine episode “Rivals”. John McDermott from The Walking Dead will be there, as will Rocky Horror Picture Show actors Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn.
Ilan Mitchell-Smith from the 80’s movie “Weird Science” was just added to the lineup of guests, and he will appear with former WWE wrestlers Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, Maria Kanellis and on-again/off-again superstar Chris Jericho. Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox of the early 80’s cop show “CHiPs” will be there. Maybe I can engage them in reminiscing about Star Trek’s Michael Dorn.
Further on in my travels, I will be returning to Long Island in November for LI Who 3, the annual Doctor Who convention in the northeast United States. Current guests include Carole Ann Ford, who portrayed The Doctor’s granddaughter Susan, alongside William Hartnell, William Russell and Jacqueline Hill in 1963 and 1964, returning for The Five Doctors 20th anniversary special in 1983. The Second Doctor era will be represented, as Frazer Hines, who was companion Jame McCrimmon, will be returning to Long Island for a third time.
Joining them will be Katy Manning, who portrayed Jo Grant, companion to Third Doctor Jon Pertwee. She also recently reprised her role in The Sarah Jane Adventures, with Elisabeth Sladen and Matt Smith. Other guests named so far include Annette Badland, who acted in 2 episodes in 2005, Nick Briggs, who has a plethora of skills on his resume as voice actor for the Daleks, Cybermen and other aliens, as well as writer and director of Big Finish Doctor Who audio plays, Richard Dinnick, also from Big Finish, and Gary Russell, whose credits also include writer, producer and director. I’m looking forward to more announcements, and the con itself, my annual vacation at the end of the year.
